| Description: As the name suggests, Asian Pears were originally grown in Japan, however, many farms are now cultivating this apple-shaped gem of a fruit. Since there are over 100 varieties of Asia pears, they vary in shape, skin color and taste. A ripe Asian pear is firm and with good fragrance. The Asian Pear is very juicy and delicious once ripe. It will give a little once ripe, don't eat them when they are very hard as you'll miss out on the juiciness that is extremely delicious! Great addition to a fruit salad or a tropical fruit plate (mix with kiwi, pineapple, mango, and (dried or fresh) cherries) or add it to your cheese plate since they don't turn brown once cut. Available late summer through early fall, they will store for up to 2 weeks in the refrigerator.
